Corrections

How we handle errors, corrections, clarifications, and retractions.

Last updated: May 14, 2026

Our commitment

First Coast Observer corrects significant factual errors as soon as we learn of them. Every correction is clearly labeled on the article itself and listed below. We do not silently edit published reporting.

What gets corrected vs. updated

Corrections address factual errors — wrong names, dates, numbers, locations, or attributions. The article carries a dated correction note explaining what was wrong and what is now right.

Clarifications address language that was technically accurate but could be misread. The article carries a dated clarification note.

Updates add new information as a story develops. These are noted with a timestamp but are not corrections.

Retractions are reserved for reporting that is so materially wrong it cannot be salvaged. The original article remains accessible at its URL with a retraction notice replacing the body.

How to request a correction

Email the editor with the article URL and the specific factual issue. Include a source we can verify. We respond to every request, whether or not the correction is made.

AI-assisted drafts

First Coast Observer uses AI to draft initial article text from primary-source press releases. Every draft is reviewed and edited by a human before publication. AI-drafted articles are subject to the same correction standards as any other reporting.
