Jacksonville Transportation Authority Launches Study on Skyway Future
New evaluation will determine whether to rehabilitate the aging elevated system or pursue alternative transit solutions for downtown.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority has launched a new Project Development and Environment Study to evaluate options for the city's Skyway system. The study is part of JTA's Ultimate Urban Circulator program and will assess how to rehabilitate and modernize the aging elevated transit network.
The Skyway system was last upgraded with Bombardier technology in 2000, nearly three decades ago. JTA officials say the choices made through this study will determine how people move through downtown Jacksonville for decades to come.
The evaluation will examine whether to rehabilitate the existing Skyway infrastructure or pursue alternative transit solutions for the downtown area. The Project Development and Environment Study represents a formal step in determining the future of downtown transit in Jacksonville.
