Historic Ambassador Hotel Renovation Seeks Final Approval
Gateway Jax's $17 million adaptive reuse project would transform the landmark into a 105-room hotel with restaurant and conference facilities.
The historic Ambassador Hotel is moving closer to a major transformation as Gateway Jax prepares to seek final approval from the Downtown Development Review Board on April 9, 2026. The company acquired the downtown landmark in March 2025 for $17 million with plans to redevelop it into a 105-key hotel.
The adaptive reuse project will include a high-end restaurant and bar, conference space, and additional amenities. Application 2026-005 requests final approval for the renovation of the Gateway Ambassador Hotel, which has been designated a locally historic landmark.
The project has already received a Certificate of Appropriateness in accordance with Chapter 307 of the City of Jacksonville Ordinance Code. The proposed scope of work includes renovation of the historic property as part of the redevelopment plans.
