New Book Documents Jacksonville's Gullah Geechee Heritage

Urban planners Ennis Davis and Adrienne Burke collaborate on historical exploration set for April release.

A new book exploring Jacksonville's Gullah Geechee heritage will be published by Arcadia Publishing on April 28, 2026. The work is a collaboration between local urban planners and historians Ennis Davis and Adrienne Burke.

Davis, co-owner of The Jaxson, is publishing his first book since 2014. Burke, also an urban planner and historian, joins him as co-author on the project titled "Jacksonville's Gullah Geechee Heritage."

Author-signed copies of the book are currently available for preorder. The publication aims to highlight the story of the Gullah Geechee community's presence and influence in Jacksonville.
