Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in Ponte Vedra Beach broke ground Oct. 2 on a new building intended to expand space for childcare, worship, education, parish ministries, youth programs, music programs, and administration.

St. Johns County announced the project Oct. 7. District 4 County Commissioner Krista Joseph attended the ceremony with parishioners, friends, clergy, and diocesan leaders.

What the parish plans to build

Plans listed by the county include a childcare center, daily chapel, faith-formation classrooms, meeting rooms for parish ministries, dedicated areas for youth and music programs, and new administrative offices.

The county said the project is part of the parish’s “Guided by the Star: Building a Future for Faith and Family” capital campaign. The announcement described the building as support for the parish’s spiritual, educational, and community activities.

Who joined the groundbreaking

The ceremony included the Rev. Andy Blaszkowski, pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea, and Bishop Erik Pohlmeier of the Diocese of St. Augustine, according to the county announcement.

The parish said it expects the building to create more room for children, families, parishioners, worship, faith formation, fellowship, and community service as construction moves forward.
