Drivers near Whiteview Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway should prepare for overnight lane restrictions and intermittent road closures from Monday, Oct. 5, through Thursday, Oct. 8, as Palm Coast moves closer to completing its Whiteview Parkway Safety Improvement project.
The city’s notice sets the work window from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. It calls for routine lane closures on eastbound Whiteview Parkway beginning at Belle Terre Parkway, along with intermittent road closures in the same area. Local traffic will be redirected to Pritchard Drive while the work is underway.
Schedule and location
The affected intersection is Whiteview Parkway at Belle Terre Parkway. The published schedule covers four overnight periods, beginning Monday evening and continuing through the early hours after Thursday night’s work. The city did not provide a minute-by-minute closure schedule, so motorists should treat the entire 7 p.m.-to-5 a.m. window as potentially affected.
Because the notice describes both lane closures and intermittent full road closures, access may change during a single night as crews move through different tasks. A lane may remain available during one part of the work window and close later when equipment or worker protection requires more space. The city’s announcement does not specify how long each intermittent closure will last.
Why crews are closing the road
Palm Coast said the overnight work will focus largely on putting new mast-arm traffic signals into service at the intersection. The project also adds dedicated turn lanes from both eastbound and westbound Whiteview Parkway onto Belle Terre Parkway.
Installing and activating mast-arm signals can require crews to occupy travel lanes and control the intersection while equipment is positioned and signal components are connected. The city selected overnight hours for the announced restrictions. Its notice does not state whether the work depends on weather, utility coordination or a final inspection before the signals operate normally.
Detour for local traffic
Palm Coast identified Pritchard Drive as the detour for local traffic moving to and from the affected area. Drivers should follow posted detour signs rather than relying only on a navigation application, because temporary routing can change faster than map services update.
People with fixed arrival times may want to allow extra travel time, especially if their route normally uses eastbound Whiteview Parkway at Belle Terre. Residents inside the work area should watch for traffic-control personnel and changing access points. The city did not announce restrictions outside the overnight window, but drivers should continue to check official updates in case the schedule changes.
What the completed project is intended to do
The city describes the Whiteview Parkway work as a safety improvement project and says it is nearing completion. Palm Coast expects the new signals and dedicated turn lanes to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection. The notice does not include crash data, traffic-volume forecasts or a before-and-after operations study, so it does not quantify the expected improvement.
Dedicated turn lanes are designed to separate turning vehicles from through traffic. At a busy signalized intersection, that separation can reduce conflicts and keep a waiting turn from blocking a through lane. The actual performance will depend on the final lane configuration, signal timing, traffic demand and driver behavior after the project opens.
